Five women who showed how they can #BeTheLight during this pandemic

The impact of this pandemic is drastically changing the lives of people around the world. Coping with to the new normal is not an easy task. We worry about our financial stability, we grieve for those who have lost their lives because of the lethal virus and we fear for our own and our loved ones’ health and safety. That’s why it’s refreshing and encouraging to stumble upon news about people becoming bearers of light and hope to others who need help during these trying times. SkinWhite, a pioneering whitening brand stood out by bringing light not just to whiten skin but to bring the light of hope to everyone through its #BeTheLight campaign. #BeTheLight campaign supported the good causes of the following women, who aren’t necessarily frontliners, but still found ways to help those in need.

1. Marielle Solomon

Marielle is a marketing professional who currently spends most of her time around volunteers like herself in Siargao Community Kitchen to ease the plight of families in the island whose source of income have been affected by COVID-19. They have provided over 4,000 food packs to the people in Siargao who have been greatly affected by the pandemic.

2. Sarah Jane de la Rosa


Sarah has proven that being a differently abled person will never be a hindrance if you have a heart to serve. Also, she is a volunteer at the Barangay Holy Spirit Person with Disabilities Association and leads the team as their President. In fact, they were able to provide relief packages for more than 1 000 PWDs and their families.

3. Pia Alviola


Pia is a Fashion Designer based in Makati. She came up with Project Love PPE and Masks, which has produced and donated over 1 500 masks and 660 PPes to various hospitals.

4. Melissa Olit

Lemon GreenTea: SkinWhite #BeTheLight initiative heralds the value of  working hand-in-hand through kind-hearted volunteers and frontliners

Melissa is the founder of Chef Aiza’s Community in Puerto Princesa. Her community aims to provide proper nutrition and sustenance to people in their community. As a matter of fact, they have served more than 5 000 food packs to various people–from front liners, students to stranded construction workers. Melissa makes sure that the food she prepares are sourced from local farmers se she can also help sustain their livelihood.

5. Angela Laspinosa

Angela is one of the lead organizers of the initiative RICEaboveCOVID in Cebu. Furthermore, she is known as a student leader in the Cebu Institute of Technology and the project manager of Para Kay Baby, a project under RICEaboveCOVID, which has allocated 100 relief goods to the families of infants and children in their town.
