We are on the last stretch of 2020. And while we leave November and prepare for the Christmas Season, let me count the top five things to look forward to this December.
1. The PBA finals – which will begin Sunday
It will be a battle between Barangay Ginebra and TNT Tropang Giga at the AUF Sports Center. This after Scottie Thompson made a big three in the closing seconds to lift Barangay Ginebra to the PBA Philippine Cup finale with an 83-80 nail-biter over underdog but fierce-fighting Meralco in their semis do-or-die duel Friday. Ginebra ended Meralco’s dream ride in the bubble tourney, thus gaining a crack at a first all-Filipino crown in 13 years.
2. “ Hinahanap-Hanap Kita Manila”
There’s this big online concert happening on December 13- and it will feature the hits of Hotdog, with performers like Gary Valenciano and Yeng Constantino, Raymund Marasigan and Ebe Dancel leading the roster of OPM performers! Not only will this take us down memory lane and, for the younger set, discover what the true Manila Sound is…. It will also be a chance for us to be taken and awed by the beautiful sights of the city of Manila (which has been revived under Mayor Isko Moreno) which serves as the apt backdrop for the concert. The show is made possible by the National Parks and Development Committee- with the support of the Department of Tourism and the City of Manila.
3. The Last big online sale of 2020
Well, after 11-11 (and previous to that, 10-10), what should come after? 12-12. This will be the last chance for buyers to snap great bargains online before Christmas. Lets just see how successful shipments will be on the days after 12-12 on this busiest time of the year.
4. The MMFF entries
Despite the pandemic, the MMFF will push through this 2020. But instead of the usual eight entries, the MMFF 2020 will showcase a diverse line-up of 10 movies, ranging from family drama, horror, action, thriller, romance, fantasy adventure to romantic comedy. The 10 official entries are: Magikland, Coming Home, The Missing, Tagpuan, Isa Pang Bahaghari, Suarez-the Healing Priest, Mang Kepweng- Ang Lihim ng Bandang Itim, Pakboys Takusa, The Boy Foretold by the Stars, and Fan Girl. In partnership with Globe, Upstream, and GMovies, this year’s MMFF makes use of the digital platform to bring Filipino films to viewers. All the official entries will be streamed online beginning Dec. 25.
5. A more definite date when a vaccine vs. COVID 19 will be available
Okay, I know this one is a long shot this 2020. But let’s face it: everyone wants this “new normal” to end–and we all wish we can travel like before, get our businesses in order- and of course see old friends and embrace people we love without fear of infecting them and vice-versa. COVID-19 was the game changer no one ever saw coming. And no matter what color, race, religion or political affiliation we belong to, one thing unites us: it’s to wish the pandemic to leave this earth- for good.
