With so many products competing for your attention and money, how do you know which product to go for? For something like make-up or medicine, a supplement or a lotion, one simply has to check if it has secured a seal of approval from the Food and Drug Administration. Without the Certificate of Product Notification from the FDA, one must think twice before purchasing a product so one keeps safe and healthy. Recently, the FDA has released an advisory against the use of Silka Papaya Whitening Lotion. This is their premium product which, according to its label, bears SPF30.

1. Post-marketing surveillance
After post-marketing surveillance, the FDA has verified that Silka Papaya Whitening Lotion with SPF 30 is being sold without a valid Certificate of Product Notification from the FDA. This means the FDA cannot assure the quality and safety of the product.
2. It did not go through the FDA process
Because it did not go through the FDA process, this said variant of Silka Papaya Lotion may be a health risk as it may contain ingredients that are not allowed to be part of a cosmetic product or from contamination of heavy metals. The FDA stressed that the use of substandard and possibly adulterated cosmetic products may cause skin irritation, itchiness, anaphylactic shock and even, organ failure.
3. Risks posed to the public
Because of the risks posed to the public, the FDA has warned establishments NOT to distribute and pull out from their shelves Silka Papaya Whitening Lotion SPF 30 as it has not undergone FDA’s notification process.

5. Be diligent!
Be diligent! To make sure that any product that you ingest or apply on your body has gone through FDA’s notification. Simply go to FDA’s Verification Portal feature at https://verification.fda.gov.ph.
