Pickleball is having its moment—and Cebuana Lhuillier is helping take it to the next level. With the Cebuana Lhuillier Gems officially stepping into the Pickle Yard Conference League (PYCL), the partnership marks a major milestone not just for the team, but for the future of one of the Philippines’ fastest-growing sports. From elite competition to grassroots impact, here are the Top Five reasons this move matters.

1. A Major Milestone for Competitive Pickleball
The Cebuana Lhuillier Gems’ entry into PYCL signals strong institutional backing for pickleball as a serious, competitive sport. Formalized through a recent MOA signing, the partnership elevates the league’s stature and reinforces confidence in pickleball’s long-term growth in the country.
2. A Clear Commitment to Developing Filipino Athletic Talent
Through the Cebuana Lhuillier Sports program, the partnership aligns with the brand’s broader advocacy of nurturing Filipino athletes. Beyond winning matches, the Gems serve as a platform to help players move forward—developing skills, discipline, and opportunities at a higher level of play.
3. Leadership-Driven Support from Both Sides
The MOA signing brought together key leaders who share a unified vision for the sport’s future: Cebuana Lhuillier President and CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier, alongside The Pickle Yard Project’s Philip Pagon, John Talusan, and Mai Sun. Their presence underscores a partnership rooted in long-term impact, not just seasonal competition.
“This is more than competition, it’s about expanding opportunities and deepening our impact through sports,” said Lhuillier, emphasizing pickleball’s potential to inspire communities and elevate Filipino talent.
4. A Format Designed for Strategy, Depth, and Excitement
Competing in PYCL’s inaugural season, the Gems will take on a double round-robin format totaling 14 matches. Each matchup features five sets—men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and two mixed doubles—with six players rotating every four points. The result: a fast-paced, highly strategic league that maximizes teamwork and adaptability.
5. Elevating the League Beyond the Court
Cebuana Lhuillier’s involvement goes beyond gameplay. Throughout the season, the brand will roll out on-ground activations such as a Gold Bar booth and a corporate showcase, with potential participation from partners like Araw Properties. These initiatives help transform PYCL into a broader movement for sport, community engagement, and shared progress.
From the Private Draft at The Pickle Yard SOMO to the season opener on March 7—and all the way to the Championship Games on May 2–3—the Cebuana Lhuillier Gems’ PYCL journey reflects a bigger vision: strengthening sports as a pathway for opportunity, excellence, and Filipino pride.
