It’s a historic moment for the Philippines: in October 2025, the first-ever Michelin Guide Philippines was launched, and nine local restaurants earned Michelin stars.
Leading the way was Helm, which became the first—and only—Philippine restaurant to receive two Michelin stars, a distinction that speaks to “excellent cooking, worth a detour.”
Eight other restaurants—Asador Alfonso, Celera, Gallery by Chele, Hapag, Inatô, Kasa Palma, Linamnam, and Toyo Eatery—each received one star for “high-quality cooking, worth a stop.”
Gallery by Chele also earned a Green Star, recognizing its commitment to sustainability.
This milestone isn’t just a win for those restaurants—it marks the Philippines’ entrance into the elite world of Michelin-rated dining, validating Filipino talent, innovation, and culinary identity on the global stage.
So, with that in mind, what does it take for a restaurant to earn a Michelin star? Here are Today’s Top Five Requirements you need to know.
Exceptional Quality of Ingredients
A Michelin-star kitchen sources the best possible ingredients—not necessarily the most expensive, but the freshest, most apt, and most flavor-driven.
Mastery of Technique
Inspectors look for flawless execution in cooking: precise timing, balanced flavors, a strong foundation in both classic and modern techniques.
Personality and Identity
A chef’s voice—heritage, creativity, vision—should shine through. Dishes must tell a story, whether through innovation, tradition, or the unique lens of the chef.
Consistency
Excellence must be repeatable. Michelin inspectors typically visit multiple times, and a star-worthy restaurant must deliver at the same high level every time.
Cohesive Dining Experience
The food is central, but the overall experience matters: atmosphere, service, pacing, wine pairing, and even sustainability efforts all add up to form that Michelin-star memory.
